Research
In August ‘09 I started a PhD at The University of Stirling. My research is looking at algorithms for blind (wild-card) search within structured peer-to-peer overlay networks. I am looking at efficient broadcast methods which allow for full-text search and regular expressions, how they cope under churn, and how they can be improved.
Development
In my spare time I work on an open-source bulletin-board software called FluxBB, where I have recently taken over as the lead developer. FluxBB is designed as a lighter, faster alternative to some of the traditional feature heavy forum applications.
Education
In June ‘09 I finished my fourth and final year at The University of Stirling; where I graduated with a first class BSc degree with honours in Software Engineering. For my final year honours project I was investigating how existing open-source libraries, in particular jMonkeyEngine along with Apache MINA, could be used to assist in the development of a Java-based MORPG framework.
Interests
I have been programming since an early age, my languages of choice are Java and PHP, though I am quite a fan of C# .NET, and have recently been using some C++. Along with software I also am interested in computer hardware, and enjoy (dis)assembling systems in my spare time.
I am a beginner snowboarder, and try to play squash a couple of times a week.
